A New Chapter for Southern Cuisine in Wichita
Sam’s Southern Eatery is set to open its third location in Wichita, bringing its beloved Southern-style flavors to the east side with a fresh twist. This exciting expansion is led by Emanuel Ashiedu, a software engineer from Salina turned restaurateur. The new restaurant will be located at 6121 E. 21st St., a site with a storied past — originally a Long John Silver’s from the 1980s and most recently the home of Clouds, a daiquiri lounge turned Mediterranean eatery. Soon, this location will transform into a hub for authentic Southern comfort food.
Wichita’s First Sam’s Southern Eatery Drive-Through
For the first time in Wichita, Sam’s Southern Eatery will introduce a drive-through service at this new east side location. Although the building is smaller than its counterparts, Emanuel Ashiedu believes this approach will provide faster and more convenient service. The drive-through menu will focus on customer favorites such as:
Crispy fried catfish
Jumbo fried shrimp
Signature po' boy sandwiches
For those dining inside, the full menu will be available, offering a complete Southern dining experience.

Originating in Shreveport, Louisiana, in 2008, Sam’s Southern Eatery has built its reputation on high-quality Southern comfort food. The extensive menu includes:

Steady Growth and Future Plans
Emanuel Ashiedu and his brother-in-law, Charles Scott, have played a significant role in expanding Sam’s Southern Eatery across Kansas. The first Wichita location opened in early 2024 in the former DeFazio’s space near 29th and Amidon. Later that year, a second location followed at 6600 W. Central. Each new opening has been met with enthusiastic support from the community.
Looking ahead, Emanuel Ashiedu has his sights set on further expansion. Plans are already in motion to open another drive-through location on the south side of Wichita, making their signature Southern dishes even more accessible.
Anticipated Opening and What to Expect
The East Wichita location is scheduled to open in mid- to late March.
