North Bondi Amenities: A Model of Sustainable Coastal Design

Located at the northern end of Bondi Beach, the North Bondi Amenities building is a standout example of thoughtful public infrastructure. Designed by Sam Crawford Architects in collaboration with Lymesmith, the facility provides essential services such as public toilets, showers, and change rooms, all with accessible features for people with disabilities.

What sets this project apart is its sustainable and community-focused approach. A green roof planted with native coastal vegetation not only provides natural insulation but also enhances views for nearby residents. The building's design uses durable materials and features soft, chamfered corners and circular motifs to harmonize with its beachside surroundings.

Winner of the 2017 National Architecture Award for Small Project Architecture, the North Bondi Amenities block demonstrates how practical public spaces can also be beautiful, inclusive, and environmentally responsible.
